Each 30 minute presentation will take you on a virtual trip along the canal and through time. It includes a short introduction to the history of the canal and background on the films. Note: Fiodra will remain moored during this event.

The films

"Barging Through London" was made around 1924 by Harry B Parkinson and Frank Miller. It features a journey by coal barge from Limehouse Basin to Paddington via King's Cross. Pulled by horse, manpower and steam tug the film shows a lost world even to many people of the time.

"The Cut" is a film-poem made in February 2018 by artist, Pierre Tremblay and the new Canal Laureate Nancy Campbell. The contrast in style, technology and content could not be more stark and astonishing. I visual kaleidoscope overlaid by staccato poetry.

About Pierre

Pierre Tremblay is an artist whose work has been exhibited for the past twenty years and appears in a number of public and private collections in Canada and France. Tremblay, who is currently an Associate Professor at Ryerson University in Toronto, was born in Québec City and lived and worked for many years in Paris. From 1994 through 1996, he also taught advanced computer imaging at the Paris branch of the Parson’s School of Design. Since 1998, he has been based in Toronto.

About Nancy

Nancy Campbell is an award-winning poet and book artist, and she was a MarieClaire ‘Wonder Woman’ in 2016. In the last decade a series of Arctic residencies has resulted in projects on themes of climate change and water conservation, including the poetry collection ‘Disko Bay’ (‘a beautiful debut from a deft, dangerous and dazzling new poet’–Carol Ann Duffy). Nancy is the UK Canal Laureate 2018, creating new work inspired by the 2,000 miles of canal network looked after by the Canal & River Trust.
